Handing out your business' social media assets plus their passwords should not be a thing. Here are 2 social media tools that can help you collaborate with others in updating your business' social media accounts.

Jason was not taking any prisoners. His tirade was peppered with cuss words here and there as he used the organization's Twitter handle to accuse the higher-ups of mismanagement. Meanwhile, Donna who I believe is one of the top people in the organization took to Twitter to stop Jason's tirade. Lucky enough she wasn't logged out from her Twitter session so it was two opposing voices using the organization's Twitter handle accusing each other of wrong-doing. Jason then went ahead and changed the handle's password to lock out everyone else from logging into it.
It might seem rather distant to you ("that can't happen to me") at the moment but it could happen to you anytime if you do not know how to manage your accounts. You could have an in-house Social Media Manager of high integrity but that's no guarantee that you are 100% safe. Therefore, how can you protect your business' social media accounts from being hijacked? Simple. You need to use tools that allow collaboration in updating your accounts without handing over any passwords. Here are two of them.
1. Tweetdeck
Tweetdeck (https://tweetdeck.twitter.com) is a powerful Twitter account manager that can allow you to create teams around accounts. It works just like any other Twitter app where you have to grant it the authority to post, delete, follow/unfollow on your behalf. This is via the Oauth protocol. To share an account with for example your Social Media Manager you simply need to log into Tweetdeck - https://tweetdeck.twitter.com - then on the left sidebar navigate to "Accounts". Click on it to open up the sidebar. At the top, you'll see your default account. Underneath this you'll see a little buton written "Manage Team". Click on this then in the little input field you can type in the username you would like to invite to collborate with on that account.2. Hootsuite
Hootsuite goes a lot further than Tweetdeck above. You can manage your Facebook pages, Twitter profiles and Instagram pages with it. Hootsuite has got a great feature called Hootsuite Teams that you can use to share an account with other team members without handing over the account's password.
3. Tweeten App
This is a bonus. Tweeten App (https://tweetenapp.com/) is exactly like Tweetdeack before Twitter took it over. Has the same features as Tweetdeck but has a few extra features like EmojiPicker and GIFPicker.
Perhaps if the British Milk Council had used these tools the world would not have been entertained to that internal-wrangling-gone-public tweetstrom mixed in with tweets telling Snoop Dogg to drink British milk.
